If you're using Safari on your Mac, the default setting for downloads from the web is for them to automatically open up. This can be a distracting characteristic, especially if your workflow includes regularly downloading content from the spider web.

How to disable your Mac from automatically opening downloads from the spider web

  1. Open Safari and click Safari in the card bar
  2. Click Preferences…
  3. Make sure the General tab at the top is selected
  4. Uncheck the box next to Open up "prophylactic" file after downloading
